Energy Week at the Libraries!

Energy Week (October 19-23) is full of virtual events to increase visibility of the university’s energy use and research and to create opportunities to shape a clean energy future. Organized by the NC State Sustainability Office and the university’s Energy Collaborative, the week includes interdisciplinary programming from partners across the university and community including the NC State University Libraries, the Research Triangle CleanTech Cluster, the Poole College of Management Business Sustainability Collaborative, the Student Energy Club, and FREEDM Systems Center.

Libraries events for Energy Week are free and open to the public and include:

Virtual A/V Geeks: “Last Time We Were Green: Clean Energy”
Friday, Oct. 16, 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
NC State alumnus and founder of A/V Geeks Skip Elsheimer will be joined by representatives from NC State’s Sustainability Office to screen and discuss vintage educational films about alternative energy sources. Register here.

Research & Computing talk: “Energy Systems Modeling with High-Performance Resources”
Tuesday, Oct. 20, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. 
In this talk, Dr. Joseph DeCarolis, Professor in the Department of Construction, Civil, & Environmental Engineering at NC State, will highlight ongoing work using Tools for Energy Model Optimization and Analysis (Temoa), an open source energy system optimization model developed at NC State that is designed to conduct rigorous uncertainty analysis and make use of high-performance computing resources. Virtual Gallery & Zine
In a collaboration with Arts NC State, the Libraries is creating a virtual gallery and zine to showcase student artwork related to energy. And you can submit work! Oct. 12 is the deadline; submission information is here. The gallery will be hosted Tuesday, Oct. 20, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 23, 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., and open all week after Oct. 20.

“To me, one of the most important things about Energy Week as a project is the collaboration across campus groups,” says Alison Edwards, University Library Specialist. “One of the primary goals of the week is to involve students in conversations about our collective energy future, not just the students interested in the scientific and environmental aspects, but also the human and social implications.”

• Partnering with UAB to screen "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
• Energy Justice Panel discussion

• Entrepreneurship panel: Recording intro videos in advance. Wolfbytes will put it together and then we will do a Q&A at the end. Rep from GridBridge, WattchIO, solar developer company. On Tuesday (time TBD)
